Rotary International District 9110 will on Wednesday 17th April reward the media for their support to the world’s largest service organisation.
This year’s edition of the Humanitarian Reporting Awards, which starts by 11 am at Rotary Centre on 8, Ladoke Akintola Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, will be chaired by former Ogun State Governor and journalism doyen, Aremo Olusegun Osoba. It will recognise and reward journalists in several categories.
According to the District 9110 District Governor, Rotarian Ifeyinwa Rita Ejezie, “the awards is aimed at strengthening the partnership between Rotary and the media by recognising journalists and media organisations with outstanding record of reportage of our District and clubs humanitarian intervention projects in the communities”.
Chairman of the event committee, Rotarian Ehi Braimah disclosed that awards would be presented in 15 categories. Braimah, who is a Rotary Assistant Governor and Publisher of Naija Times online newspaper, said that the awards would be given for the coverage of Rotary clubs and District 9110.
The categories include: Best Television station, Best Radio station, Best newspaper, Best Newspaper, Best Online newspaper, and Best Online TV station.
There are also: Best Online magazine, Best Outdoor, Best Male Celebrity Endorser promoting Polio eradication. Best Female Celebrity Endorser promoting Polio eradication, and Most Outstanding Broadcast Journalist,
Others are: Most Outstanding Print Journalist, Best Television Station, Most Outstanding Public Image Director in Rotary International District 9110, and Overall Best Rotary Club in humanitarian reporting.
Over 140 Rotary clubs and 14,000 Rotarians participated in nominating entries for the awards.
The Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye will deliver the Keynote address, Chairman Channels Media Group, Dr. John Momoh is the Special Guest of Honour, while former Minister of Health, who is also Past District Governor, Prince Julius Adelusi Adeluyi, will be the Guest of Honour.
Rotary International District 9110 covers Lagos and Ogun States. From 1st July 2024, it will evolve into two districts – District 9111 and District 9112.
