The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it has almost given up on the series of ‘persistent missteps and misgovernance’ characterising the three-year administration of the Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement over the weekend in Osogbo, the state capital, the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sooko Tajudeen Lawal said that, since the inauguration of the Adeleke administration in November 2022, his approach has shown that ‘it is either he is not prepared for effective governance of the state or he is grossly lacking in what it takes to govern a complex state like Osun State’.
Lawal further said: ‘We, however, take solace in the constitutional respite that the terminal life of the Peoples Democratic Party-led administration in the state is November 2027 when the governor would have served out his inglorious four-year tenure.
‘It is strange that the governor is fond of proverbially digging the gutters each time the state is up in flames, which is an indication of a misfit in the corridor of power.
‘The conduct of Governor Adeleke since the time he assumed the political leadership of the state has shown that he is more concerned and fascinated to the office simply because of the glamour of the office, and not the capability and ability to serve.
‘It is difficult to explain that Governor Adeleke could, again, choose the option of attending a birthday party in Texas, United States of America, while the state is under security threat given that Kwara State, which is now being known for banditry and notoriety of terrorists, shares boundary with Osun State.
‘While some state governors are busy finding the ways to checkmate the activities of the bandits from spreading to their states, our own dancing Governor Adeleke is busy frolicking and dancing away his time in the United States under the guise of attending the birthday bash of his relative’.
The statement recalled that President Bola Tinubu had to put off his scheduled working visit to South Africa in order to attend to the numerous incidents of criminal activities in the country.
Lawal further said: ‘This year alone, Governor Adeleke has embarked on personal visits to the United States no fewer than six times on Osun State resources; the resources that could have been devoted to sort education, health and other economic challenges bedevilling the state.
‘One wonders why the quasi-absence of governance at the grassroots level of government in the state for the past eight months, which is apparently being sponsored by the governor, has not been of concern to him.
‘Governor Adeleke hasn’t seen any reason why the Osun State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, which has also been on strike for over two months over delayed promotion of its members, among other things, should resume.
‘All the state courts have been under lock and key for over two months while the number one citizen of the state is busy dancing from Osogbo to Lagos to Abuja to the United States of America without making any effort that justice is not denied the about five million people of the state who have been exposed to the worst administration in the history of the state.
‘We are pleading with the good people of the state to continue with their endurance game till when it would be auspicious for them to have the government that genuinely cares for them and will enjoy the confidence of the right-thinking members of the society through the forthcoming governorship election.
‘While they wait patiently to kick out the bumbling governor at the poll next August, the people should take their security as it is clear now that the government of Osun does not care about them’.
