Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced the return of the Ounjè Eko Sunday Market, which offers residents a 25% discount on essential food items.
This initiative, initially launched in March and paused after a few weeks, will resume on 1 September 2024. The market aims to provide relief to Lagosians facing high food costs by offering discounted staple items such as rice, beans, gari, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper.
The markets will operate at various locations across Lagos, including 27 sites in Ikeja, six on Lagos Island, nine in Ikorodu, five in Epe, and ten in Badagry divisions. This move is part of the state government’s broader strategy to reduce the economic burden on its residents amid rising living costs.
