Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election for another term in office following his victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, was declared winner of the August 15, 2026 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday morning.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Oyebanji described Adeleke’s victory as a reflection of the choice of the majority of voters in Osun State.
The Ekiti governor urged Adeleke to be magnanimous in victory and reach out to other candidates who contested the election, urging him to consider their contributions in the administration of the state.
Oyebanji also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as providing a level playing field for all contestants in the election.
According to him, the development helped reduce tension and contributed to making the contest credible and fair.
He also congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, describing him as a worthy challenger, while praising Osun APC members for putting up a strong showing during the election.
The governor urged the party’s members to return to the drawing board, review the outcome and develop strategies ahead of future elections.
Oyebanji further commended INEC and the security agencies for their roles in conducting the election.
However, he cautioned against interpreting Adeleke’s victory as a rejection of President Tinubu by the people of Osun State, insisting that the state would support the President and the APC in the 2027 presidential election.
“This is democracy and majority of Osun voters have expressed their preference for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“Congratulations to Governor Adeleke on the electoral victory. I urge him to be magnanimous in victory and carry other contestants along in the task of building a more prosperous Osun State,” Oyebanji said.
He added:
“We must specially appreciate our dear President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for providing a level playing field for all the contestants. This singular act of the President reduced tension and made the contest a credible one.”
Oyebanji maintained that the outcome of the governorship election should not be viewed as an indication of Osun residents’ position on Tinubu’s presidency or the 2027 election.
“The outcome of the Osun Governorship election should not be misinterpreted as a true reflection of Osun people about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Certainly not. The people of Osun will massively vote for President Tinubu come January 2027,” he said.
