A 65-year-old man, Waheed Kareem has been arrested and detained at the Oyo State Criminal Investigation Department for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.

Waheed, an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, alongside his 60-year-old younger brother, Rasheed Kareem, who is at large, were said to have assaulted his stepdaughter at Olude, Apata, in Ibadan, Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.

It was further learnt that the teenager (name withheld), who is a Junior Secondary School 1 student of a government-owned secondary school, was severally abused by her biological father since she was two years old.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim said she started experiencing sexual abuse after her mother, Abiodun Kareem, moved out of her matrimonial home, leaving her with her father.

She said the situation continued till she was eight years old.

Although her father was arrested and died in prison, the victim claimed she continued experiencing sexual assault in the hands of her stepfather and his brother since 2021.

She alleged that Waheed had sex with her weekly, while his younger brother, Rasheed, popularly called Onaala, had sex with her every day.

The victim said she did not inform her mother because her stepfather threatened to kill her and her mother.

It was further gathered that a neighbour noticed that she was having her menstruation for 16 days every month as against the normal three to five days.

This was said to have prompted her mother to take her to a private hospital, where it was discovered that her womb had been infected.

Confirming the allegation, the 35-year-old mother of the victim, Abiodun, said she accosted her husband but had to keep mute as she had no financial means to care for her three children aged six, four and two.

As of press time on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Adewale Osifeso could not be reached for confirmation.

Meanwhile, the Director of Child Welfare, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Oluwagbemileke Ojerinde, promised that the state government would rehabilitate the victim while her mother would be supported in raising the children.
