The Oyo State Government on Thursday sealed an industrial facility, Fountain Manufacturing Company Ltd, located in Oluyole, Ibadan, over its repeated violations and non-compliance with environmental regulations.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdulmojeed Mogbojubola, issued the directive following numerous complaints and petitions regarding the health hazards posed to residents living near the facility.

Mogbojubola stated that the ministry had, for several years, intervened in the matter to mediate amicably between residents and the facility’s management. However, the facility owner had consistently failed to respond to or comply with government directives and state environmental laws.

He also announced the sealing of a popular lounge on Akala Expressway, Casta De Lounge, for dumping waste on the highway median.

‘The ministry also revealed that after necessary investigations, the lounge refused to patronise government-assigned waste collectors and was found guilty of multiple environmental offences.’

Meanwhile, the state government has declared a state of emergency on improper waste disposal in all markets and public places.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mogbojubola, made this known during a scheduled meeting with market leaders across the state in the ministry’s conference room.

He stated that the government had commenced the distribution of skip bins to major markets in the state, affirming that the waste disposal containers would put an end to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians and in unauthorised places.

He assured that the skip bins would be evenly distributed across all markets and public places.

The commissioner urged market executives, including the Baba Olojas and Iya Olojas, to prioritise cleanliness in the markets to prevent avoidable closures.
