A dumpsite, which sits on about 10 acres of land and operated in the Oluyole Estate in Ibadan by Sumal Foods Limited, has been shut down by the Oyo State Government.

A statement issued by the state government disclosed that the dumpsite was closed because the company did not get approval to operate the facility.

During a visit to the facility last week by the chairman of the Oyo State Waste Management Taskforce, Mrs Aderonke Adedayo, she stated that the dumpsite, which she described as illegal, was at the detriment of other residents in the area.

Adedayo, who visited the dumpsite with other members of the task force and management team of Mottainai Recycling, said the dumpsite was filled with industrial and commercial wastes.

The task force boss asserted that necessary legal actions would be taken against the manufacturing company.

“The dumpsite has domestic wastes, commercial wastes and all sorts of things smelling on the land”, she said, adding that after the shutdown, the state government will serve an abatement notice on the erring company.

A member of the team, Mr Adekola Ayoade said the offending organisation had contravened the land acquisition laws of Oyo State, adding that the right of the firm on the usage of the land will be revoked by the Ministry of Lands and Housing.

“The Ministry of Lands cannot give this place out as a dump site. Therefore, it is an illegal creation by Sumal”, he said.

The Managing Director of Mottainai Recycling, Mr Adey Adewuyi, who spoke through the Chief Sustainability Officer, Ms Deborah Fadeyi, enjoined residents and Manufacturing companies to embrace state government’s waste management policies for a healthy environment.
