The ancient town of Oyo was agog with celebrations on Monday as residents welcomed the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade.
The joyous occasion followed the presentation of the Staff and Instruments of Office to the first-class Yoruba monarch by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Oba Owoade becomes the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, assuming the revered throne more than two years after the passing of the late Oba Lamidi Atanda Adeyemi.
Earlier in the day, Governor Makinde officially presented the instruments of office to Oba Owoade during a ceremony held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, located at the Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan.
The new Alaafin’s installation marks the beginning of a new era for the Oyo Kingdom, with festivities reflecting the deep cultural heritage and pride of the Yoruba people.
