Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has said that the party would win the five South East states in the 25th February 2023 election.
Okowa, who is also the Governor of Delta State, said during the inauguration of the party’s presidential campaign council on Wednesday that the calibre of people that gave their support at the stakeholders meeting in Enugu on Tuesday assured him of overwhelming victory in the region.
Labour Party candidate, Mr Peter Obi has the “home boy” factor in the South East zone.
Okowa also said that the reception in the South East was similar to what he experienced earlier in Kano, saying that that gave him the hope that PDP would win in the North West and all the six geopolitical zones in the country.
He said the leaders of the party must be truthful and go back home to work for the victory, adding that Nigeria is very sick and required a party that could heal it.
He appreciated the flagbearer of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for making a blueprint for the country, challenging other presidential candidates to do that and not just appearing on television.
The campaign launch, which also featured the presentation of a book in honour of Atiku, was however boycotted by leaders of the protesting group loyal to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike. Wike himself is out of the country.
Missing at the event were Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State; Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
The PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu was said to be absent on account of ill-health.
Other PDP governors believed to be loyal to the party’s presidential candidate were, however, in attendance.
They include: Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State; Diri Duoye of Bayelsa State; Godwin Obaseki of Edo State; Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State; Darius Ishaku of Taraba State; Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State; and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
