The vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has said that the party would run in the 2023 general election as a united family.
Okowa, who is also the Governor of Delta State, told newsmen on Friday at the Benue State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja that the process of atonement to resolve issues arising from the fallout of the PDP presidential primary, and his nomination for the vice-presidential job, was ongoing.
He had a private meeting with Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, one of the aggrieved leaders of the party, and assured that “all issues would be resolved” at the end.
Okowa stressed that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who was widely believed to have been nominated for the vice presidential candidacy, is a dogged party member who had given his all for the victory of the PDP and would not want to give another political party his commitment.
On his part, Ortom emphasised that the party hierarchy was on course to further the talks to right all the wrongs that were committed during the struggle for the presidential and vice-presidential tickets.
Ortom had said on Tuesday that the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had considered his counsel on his disagreement with Wike, adding that, as a reputable stakeholder of the party, Wike ought to be pacified to ensure that the atonement process was done smoothly with ease.
Wike had vowed to explain further about the PDP presidential primary where he came second behind Abubakar, and the refusal of the candidate to name him the vice presidential candidate despite being the consensus choice.
