The Imo State Police Command has arrested one Chinwendu Nwagwu, a suspected killer of Ahmed Gulak, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The suspect was paraded during a press briefing in Owerri, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Gulak, a former presidential political adviser, was killed on 30th May 2021, in Owerri while on his way to the airport.
He was on his way to catch a flight to Abuja after visiting the state.
The police said the suspect is an army deserter who hails from Amaohuru in Nguru, Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo state.
The suspect was also said to have confessed to masterminding the attack on Imo State Correctional Centre in April 2021 as well as attacks on several police stations in the state.
Last June, the Imo State Police Command announced the arrested a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPoB/ESN) in connection with Gulak’s murder.
The 38-year-old Anosike Chimobi was said to have picked along the Owerri Airport, Imo State in 2021.
The Public Relations Officer of the police command, Chief Superintendent of Police Michael Abattam told newsmen that the arrest followed a credible intelligence to the anti-kidnapping unit of the command.
He said that the suspect, who hails from Umuedo Obohia in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State, has confessed to being a member of IPOB/ESN who attacked the onion truck at Enyiogugu junction in Aboh Mbaise LGA as well as the murder of many police officers and collection of their service rifles.
