The Divisional Police Officer of Pankshin, Superintendent Nwapi Augustus, who was kidnapped by armed persons, has reportedly been freed, according to the Plateau Police Command.
According to a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Alfred Alabo, in Jos on Sunday, “the officer has been taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment, and will soon be reunited with his family”.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that gunmen had abducted the DPO on 11th January, and whisked him to an unknown destination.
Alabo said that following the police officer’s kidnap, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies and hunters in the area, swung into action and eventually freed the victim from his captors.
The police spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bartholomew Onyeka had deployed a tactical team toward ensuring that the perpetrators were arrested and prosecuted.
