The Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday said it has arrested two suspects who allegedly stoned a 35-year-old man, Olorunfemi Tope, to death in Akure, the state capital.

Tope was killed in a mob attack in the Ijoka Area of Akure on Monday after his Toyota Camry car allegedly crushed two people to death and injured others.

The deceased was lynched while his vehicle was set ablaze by some people in the area when some fetish items were allegedly found in his car, raising suspicion that he was a ‘Yahoo boy.’

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami told the media that two persons had been arrested in connection with the mob attack.

She said: “We have arrested two among the people that were involved in the mob attack. One of them is an artisan and the other one is an okada rider.

“We are still on the trail of others, when we arrest them, we will parade them and charge them to court after our investigation”.

Earlier while featuring on a live radio programme on Tuesday, Odunlami had also said police detectives had arrested two suspects over the matter.

The programme was monitored by a News Agency of Nigeria correspondent in Akure.

She said one of the two arrested suspects allegedly masterminded the burning of Tope’s car.

She said the suspects would be charged with murder and arson while appealing to members of the public never to take laws into their hands.

The PPRO said: “As of now, no one can confirm if the dead young man in question was an internet fraudster.

“Rather than people around to have helped when the accident happened, some resolved to jungle justice by killing the young man and setting his car ablaze.

“We need to refrain from engaging in jungle justice, shun hearsay, and report any incident to the nearby police station so that there will be peace in our community”.
