The Police Command in Delta has arrested three suspected cultists and recovered weapons from them in Warri.
Spokesman for the Command, Superintendent Bright Edafe disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Warri.
Edafe said that the suspects were apprehended on Friday by the operatives of the Quick Response Squad of the Command.
He said that the police squad was led by SP Achem Collins to the hoodlums’ hideout at Okwagbe St., Igbudu in Warri metropolis.
‘Acting on credible intelligence that members of a notorious cult group were assembling to launch attacks on innocent residents within Warri and its environs, the police operatives, in a sting operation, raided the building.
‘On sighting the police, some of the suspects fled the scene in a desperate attempt to evade arrest. However, three among the suspects were arrested’, he said.
Edafe said that a thorough search of the premises resulted in the recovery of a cut-to-size locally fabricated double-barrel gun and 17 live cartridges carefully concealed inside the building.
He further said that the suspects had confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity.
Edafe said that the suspects were being investigated, adding that effort was on top gear to apprehend the other fleeing members of the group.
