The Lagos State Police Command said it had recovered three rifles that were parts of the weapons stolen from its armoury during the #EndSARS protest.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) Ishola Olanrewaju, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the state command headquarters on Saturday.

He said the rifles were found on 27 December 2024, after being kept in a bag placed on the rooftop of a building at Idunsagbe Street in the Lagos Island area of the state.

He noted that the weapons were traced to the ones carted away from Ebutte Ero Police Station during the protest.

He said, “On the 27th of December, 2024 at 14 Idunsagbe Street, Lagos Island, information was received that a bag was sighted on the rooftop at this address. Two AK 47 rifles breach number 52573, 4004855 and 07003-853 K2 assault rifles all without magazines and ammunition. This was traced to the arms and ammunition looted from our armoury at Ebutte Ero police station during the #EndSARS crisis”.

According to him, the rifles were in various stages of disrepair but had been refurbished by professional gun handlers in the command.

“The guns have since been united with the Divison where they were taken from”, he added.

The CP stated that the command lost three police officers while on duty in 2024.

The command also paraded a suspect for allegedly kidnapping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl.

According to the police chief, the girl was abducted and impregnated while her parents were asked to pay ransom for her release.

“I have a case of abduction of a 14-year-old girl who is inadvertently pregnant. The girl reached out to the parents that she had been kidnapped and asked the parents should send money. Of course, they had been sending the money to her but we apprehended two of them on Friday night”, he said.

The commissioner revealed that he has rescued at least 16 ladies from similar situations.

“I want to tell us that some of the kidnap cases that are celebrated in the media are not ordinary kidnap cases. It is what we term constructive kidnap. Constructive in the sense that, you are a lady who is on a fast lane. Then, a group of boys will lure you from your enclave into Lagos. Send you a flight ticket to come to Lagos, and lodged in a five-star hotel not knowing that it was just bait”.
