Personnel of the Borno Police Command have foiled Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacks on Nganzai and Damasak communities in the state.

According to the command, the Police Commissioner, Naziru Abdulmajid, had to deploy additional officers to protect Nganzai and Damasak, a border community with Niger.

It added that the additional deployment was to successfully repel the coordinated terrorists’ attacks in the Borno Central Senatorial District of the state.

Spokesperson for the command, Assistant Superintendent Nahum Daso, disclosed yesterday in Maiduguri that: ‘On 4th April 2026 at about 01:00 a.m., armed terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram and ISWAP, attacked the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in an attempt to overrun the community located along the Maiduguri-Monguno Road’.

Daso added that the Police Divisional Officers, in collaboration with Police Mobile Force (PMF) operatives and the state’s Crack Squad on special duty, engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle that lasted for about an hour.

He further revealed: ‘The terrorists, who deployed Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and other sophisticated weapons, caused damage to a section of the Nganzai Divisional Police Station, and partially torched an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).

‘Regrettably, four police personnel paid the supreme price in the line of duty of protecting the community’.
BUT the command, yesterday, laid to rest four officers, including two inspectors and two constables, who were killed while repelling the attacks.

The command’s spokesperson identified the deceased as Inspector Samuel Ezekiel of Nganzai Division, Inspector Sanusi Mohammed of 58 PMF Lafiya, Police Constable Bitrus Luka of Crack Squad BRS, and Police Constable Shaibu Bukar of Crack Squad BRS.

‘The solemn interment ceremony took place today, 05/04/2026, at the Kawar Maila Burial Ground and the Maximum Prison Burial Ground, Maiduguri, in accordance with religious rites’, Daso said.
