The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers has called on its members not to embark on strike, following the recent leadership tussle rocking the PTD.

PTD’s factional National Chairman, Lucky Osesua, made the call in Abuja while speaking with officials of the association, adding that tanker drivers would not want to disrupt the flow of petroleum products across the country.

“Again, we appeal to you (members) to sheathe your sword and not embark on strike, as we are working and will resolve the leadership tussle soon.

“This is a time for the PTD to stand on its own and focus on the primary objectives of the association, which include the delivery of petroleum products to locations within the federation.

“We appeal to you not to fall for the unrealistic promises from the other faction. It is important to say that if we did not challenge the rascalities, those unrealistic promises would not be made”, Osesua stated.

He also reminded members of the association that its mandate was not to work against the policies of the current administration, or to be an attack dog for the federal government.

“We call on all national executive members, both past and present, to unite and come together towards ensuring an amicable resolution and smooth sailing of PTD. Without peace and unity, the association cannot move forward.

“My team is ready to work with everyone, and we offer an olive branch to the opposition to contribute their quota to the growth of PTD. We shall remain focused and drive the union’s core objectives without disrupting the country’s economy or causing hardship to the people”, Osesua added.

He appealed to members of the union to be calm, loyal, law-abiding and go about their daily business without fear of police harassment or intimidation.
