Worried by the worsening security situation in the country, the House of Representatives has urged the Clerk of the Green Chamber to compile its resolutions on security for transmission to the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The House took the decision following the consideration of a motion sponsored by the Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, and 28 others during Wednesday’s plenary session.

In moving the motion, Chinda, who represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers State, lamented the state of security across the country in the past few years, which he said had impacted negatively on the cost of living, especially the cost of food items.

He noted that despite the resolutions by the House, nothing has happened by way of execution to mitigate the attendant consequences.

Chinda said that many Nigerians would be subjected to food insecurity if nothing is done to address the challenges of insecurity in the country.

He said: “According to the International Centre for Investigative Reporting, over 380 Nigerians had been kidnapped in January 2024, and over 26.5 million Nigerians were projected by the Food and Agriculture Organisation to be food insecure in 2024.

“Unless the House of Representatives matches its resolutions with actions, the faith that the citizens have in the House will wane, and more Nigerians will continue to suffer the negative effects of insecurity in all sectors of the economy”.

Following a voice vote on the motion, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the plenary session mandated the Clerk of the House “To compile all House Resolutions on security and forward the compilation to the office of the Security Adviser and the Committee on Legislative Compliance for action”.
