Their places remain the same – Rivers are No 1 on the log, while Plateau United stay second as Matchday 21 fixtures of the Nigeria Premier Football League for 2021/22 season ended on Thursday evening.

Both sides are separated by two points with Rivers United having 46 points and a plus 23 goal advantage. Plateau United’s goal difference at 44 points is plus 20.

In Port Harcourt, Nyima Nwagua’s shot in the 15th minute claimed maximum points for the Pride of Rivers.

Opponents Lobi Stars were lucky that other results went their way, otherwise they would have descended into the relegation zone.

Plateau United had to wait till the 90th minute to have the needed victory through Andrew Ikefe’s strike.

Anything otherwise would have put United at risk as third placed Rangers are on their heels. With United’s win, there is now a distance of seven points between both sides.

In the third match of the day, Wikki Tourists prevailed by a lone goal over Sunshine Stars to leapfrog the Akure side and move five steps to sixth.

Wikki Tourists’ goal came quite early as Abubakar Aliyu found the ball into the net in the third minute, from the spot.

The 38-week league will be back on Sunday with Matchday 22 matches.

Matchday 21 results: Kano Pillars 0-0 Akwa United, Abia Warriors 2-1 Enyimba, Dakkada FC 2-0 Kwara United, Rangers 1-0 Katsina United, Shooting Stars 0-0 Gombe United, Remo Stars 1-0 MFM, Nasarawa United 2-0 Heartland, Wikki Tourists 1-0 Sunshine Stars, Rivers United 1-0 Lobi Stars, Plateau United 1-0 Niger Tornadoes
