The path of Nigeria’s elite league champions Rivers United in the knockout stages of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup has been drawn.
They have been drawn to face Young Africans of Tanzania in the quarter-finals, with a potential clash against either Pyramids of Egypt or Marumo Gallants of South Africa in the semi-finals.
The Nigeria Professional Football League champions were handed a date against the Tanzanians in the quarter-finals at the draw ceremony for the competition and the CAF Champions League in Cairo on Wednesday night.
The first leg of the encounter will be played in Port Harcourt or Uyo on 23rd April, while the return fixture follows a week later in Tanzania.
Meanwhile, Rivers United goalkeeper, Victor Sochima has expressed confidence in the ability of the team to progress in the competition.
“For us to be here, it shows the work we have put in and it’s something to be proud of in Nigeria. We are champions of our league and at this stage of the competition, we already know we are bound to face any team. Now that we know our opponents, we will be prepared and I am sure they have our respect too”, he said.
Stanley Eguma’s side will be playing at this stage of the competition for the first time in their history.
They finished second in their group with 10 points from six matches, behind Ivorien side ASEC Mimosas, who were drawn against US Monastir of Tunisia.
The last quarter-finals draw in the competition will see USM Alger trade tackle with AS FAR Rabat of Morocco.
