3 min read

The Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central is set to host distinguished guests – Rotarians and non-Rotarians – on Wednesday 23 March in commemoration of its first year.

Chartered by Rotary International on 23rd March 2021, the club is using the event to mobilise support in cash and kind for its ongoing and new projects.

The celebratory night comes up at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja from 6:00 pm.

The club’s Charter President, Rotarian Deji Shonuga explained that the projects in focus included those located within the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, Ikeja and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Primary Health Centre, Ikeja.

According to Shonuga, the need assessment on these projects reveled shocking and depressing outcomes. ‘The Special Correctional Centre for Boys, where supposedly delinquent youth are meant to be taught social skills, does not have a toilet facility for the boys. And until our Club installed borehole at the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Primary Health Centre, Oritse Street, Ikeja last November, the public health facility and its immediate residents never before enjoyed clean water’, he lamented, as he explained that there is still a lot of work to be done at these facilities.

Among dignitaries expected at the anniversary event is the Governor of Rotary International District 9110, Rotarian Remi Bello, and the immediate past District Governor, Rotarian Bola Oyebade, during whose tenure the club was chartered, while Engr. Gbenga Ogunsola, CEO Gbenak Global Limited, is the Special Guest of Honour.

Also expected are leadership and members of the Rotary Club of Akowonjo, the parent club of Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central, as well as top Rotarians and eminent citizens across the industry and professions.

Highlight of the night will the launch of a special publication with proceeds deployed to execute various projects.

In just a year, Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central has executed several projects in virtually all the areas of focus of Rotary International.

The fund-raising event will enable the club to do more in serving its community and humanity generally, according to its Public Image Chairman, Rotarian Claude Mwamba.
