Sabi Chef, a street food cooking competition, has selelcted 10 finalists for its show which holds on Friday, 8th December.
This follows a rigorous screening exercise, which narrowed over 1,000 entries in the upcoming first ever street food festival and competition.
Also unveiled are the two judges, including popular celebrity chef, Joy Etor; and food blogger, Peter Olaniyi.
The 10 finalists are: Benedicta Ogundimu, Mattias Attiogbe, Olaoluwa Akintayo, Adaba Michael, Ikechukwu Michael, Joy Ayali, Tosin James, Akinyemi Taiwo, Ubachi Nwaoha and Ruth Peter.
The event, scheduled to hold at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos, aims to celebrate the importance of street food, propagate hygiene and encourage culinary tourism.
On the development, Editor-in-Chief of Newspread.ng, Mr. Uche Nnadozie said: “We are starting the Christmas season for Lagosians. It’s a family event, come out to eat, drink, dance and connect”.
Similarly, Chairman of NT News Limited, publishers of Newspread.ng, Mr. Shola Ewuola reiterated the importance of street food to the average Nigerian. He said the availability and affordability of these foods across the country have saved many young and not so young people. “This is the time to encourage the chefs on the street. It’s going to be a festival”, he said.
Last week, Sabi Chef stormed a number of major markets in Lagos State to sensitise residents, traders, chefs and vendors about the event.
During the street activation, which was held at the popular Yaba, Lagos Island, Oshodi, Ikorodu and Ogba, many residents were rewarded by Sabi Chef ambassadors after participating in dance, sports, quiz and other activities.
