Fuji music icon Saheed Osupa has expressed heartfelt gratitude after Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy named him among his greatest of all time (GOAT) singers. The recognition came during an intriguing conversation Burna Boy had with tennis legend Roger Federer.
While chatting with Federer, Burna Boy revealed that Fuji artistes, particularly Saheed Osupa, are among his all-time favorite singers. The discussion covered a wide range of topics, from family traditions and childhood crushes to footballers and superheroes. When asked about his GOAT superhero, Burna Boy chose Black Panther, sharing that his stage name was inspired by his childhood love for comic book characters.
‘I used to draw superheroes when I was younger, and that’s how I got the name Burna Boy because I wanted to be a character in a comic book. My superpower would be fire flame’, he said.
But it was his musical inspirations that truly caught attention. Burna Boy singled out Fuji music as his favorite genre and named Saheed Osupa as his top pick. This acknowledgment sparked a warm response from Osupa, who took to social media to thank Burna Boy for the ‘powerful acknowledgement’.
In a moving message on X, the 55-year-old Fuji veteran called Burna Boy’s tribute a ‘monumental moment’ that celebrates Fuji music’s timeless influence and highlights Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. ‘This honor not only uplifts my journey but also shines a brilliant light on our rich cultural heritage, bridging generations and genres worldwide’, Osupa wrote.
He went on to praise Burna Boy, whom he described as an ‘Afropop titan’ and ‘the African Giant’, and expressed his excitement about attending one of Burna Boy’s concerts to celebrate his ‘God-given talents’.
‘To Oluwa Burna and every music lover embracing our story – thank you for believing in the magic of Fuji. Thank you for believing in Africa’s ingenious creativity’, Osupa added. ‘I look forward to attending one of your upcoming concerts to appreciate your God-given talents and reciprocate your genuine love and affection. Keep prospering, my beloved Burna’.
