Police operatives in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State have killed several suspected bandits during a security operation and recovered motorcycles reportedly abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
The operation took place on Sunday afternoon as security agencies intensified efforts to tackle banditry and protect communities across the state.
The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the operation but said it was still awaiting a detailed report from officers involved in the engagement.
The command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Ahmed Rufai, said the operation had taken place but that the number of casualties had yet to be established.
“Yes, the operation happened, but we are yet to get the full details,” Rufai said.
He added that the command was awaiting a situation report from personnel deployed to the area before confirming the exact number of casualties and other details surrounding the operation.
“We cannot ascertain the number of casualties yet. We are still expecting the full situation report from the operatives on the ground,” he said.
The recovery of the motorcycles is expected to aid security agencies in efforts to disrupt the movement and operations of bandit groups active in parts of Sokoto State.
The incident comes amid continuing security operations aimed at driving bandits from affected areas and restoring normalcy to communities that have been impacted by attacks.
