Hon. Donald Ojogo, the federal lawmaker representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the House of Representatives, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms as essential steps toward Nigeria’s prosperity.
Ojogo commended President Tinubu’s courage in initiating the reforms, stating that only a leader with boldness and vision could embark on such ambitious measures. He noted that while the reforms may have temporary negative effects, they are necessary for long-term national growth.
“As lawmakers, especially in the House of Representatives, we are not unmindful of the short-term effects of these very necessary measures aimed at achieving economic prosperity and growth for Nigeria.
“Every country in dire need of economic redirection like ours cannot avoid the kinds of reforms currently underway. Like childbirth, the pains and effects that accompany such reforms are temporary and lead to positive results.”
He acknowledged the burden borne by citizens, particularly those most affected by the reforms, but emphasized that lawmakers are committed to mitigating these impacts.
“We feel the impacts even in multiple ways as representatives of the people. But we will not shy away from our responsibility to ensure that the suffering is alleviated. We believe that the reforms are not just necessary but desirable for the nation’s future.”
Ojogo further urged Nigerians to have faith in the reforms, adding that his colleagues in the legislature remain supportive and are actively addressing misconceptions about the policies through constructive engagements.
In the spirit of the season, Ojogo distributed ₦53.6 million to his constituents to provide relief during the Yuletide. Beneficiaries included disarmed ex-militants, political leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, and other stakeholders across the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency.
A statement by his Chief of Staff, Oladeji Ebisemiju, highlighted the lawmaker’s dedication to improving the lives of his constituents through financial support and infrastructural initiatives.
Each of the 22 wards in the constituency received ₦500,000.
