Sujimoto Construction Limited has denied liability over a disputed ₦24 million claim, stating that the matter is currently before a court for determination.
The company clarified that the powers of an administrator appointed through an ex-parte court order have been suspended, pending the outcome of legal proceedings.
In a statement on Monday, Sujimoto said it had complied with due process by depositing a bank draft for the disputed sum under protest, stressing that the action does not amount to an admission of liability.
According to the firm, it has filed motions challenging the ex-parte order, adding that the filings have effectively placed the authority of the appointed administrator on hold until the court delivers its ruling.
Sujimoto explained that the ex-parte order, granted on 14 November 2025, was based on representations concerning its financial position which, it said, do not reflect the company’s current operational realities.
The company disclosed that it has placed evidence before the court demonstrating sustained financial stability and active business operations, including payments amounting to billions of naira to creditors over the past 12 months.
It stated that more than ₦10 billion was paid within the period to banks, private investors and government agencies, including a voluntary repayment of ₦1.28 billion to the Enugu State Government on a contract that is still under dispute.
Sujimoto further revealed that it holds assets valued in excess of ₦90 billion, while its liabilities account for less than 10 per cent of its total asset base. The company added that its financial standing is supported by a Triple BBB+ Investment Grade rating for 2024–2025 issued by DataPro.
Reaffirming its commitment to corporate governance, the firm said it remains dedicated to transparency and constructive engagement with creditors, noting that it has consistently settled its obligations through lawful and structured processes.
The company also highlighted its workforce strength, disclosing that it employs over 745 professionals and has paid more than ₦7 billion in wages over the past 12 years.
Commenting on the development, the Group Managing Director of Sujimoto Holdings, Dr Sijibomi Ogundele, said the company would continue to operate strictly within the law while prioritising project delivery and staff welfare.
‘Sujimoto remains committed to integrity, accountability and excellence. We will continue to operate transparently and ensure that all obligations are addressed in line with the law’, Ogundele said.
The company affirmed that it will pursue its legal position through the courts while maintaining operations and delivering real estate projects across the country.
