TBS ready for Sanwo-Olu’s 2nd term inauguration as governor, deputy declare assets

Ahead of Monday’s inauguration of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat for the second term, the historic Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), venue of the event, is already wearing an impressive look.

This is as Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat have submitted their Asset declaration forms to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), as required by law.

Located on Lagos Island and close to the Lagos House, Marina, TBS witnessed massive decoration and aesthetic improvements on Saturday as members of the Inauguration Committee and vendors worked to give the venue a new look.

The VIP stand located at the heart of venue looks exquisite and colorful with the decorators still putting finishing touches to it as at Saturday afternoon.  There were some platforms located close to the VIP stand, where the rituals of the swearing-in would be performed during the inauguration.

At the venue on Saturday, some members of the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps perfected their match and other displays.

Some Lagosians also trooped out for the “Greater Lagos Exhibition”, a pictorial exhibition on Sanwo-Olu’s works from 29th May 2019 to date. The eight-day photo exhibition held at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Onikan, which started running daily from 10 am to 6 pm, started last Sunday.

Some Lagosians expressed their satisfaction with the incumbent government, commending the Governor for delivering dividends of democracy to the residents in line with the six pillars of THEMES developmental agenda.

The six pillars of T.H.E.M.E.S covers Transportation and Traffic Management, Healthcare and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Megacity, Entertainment, Tourism and Sports, and Security and Governance.

The pictorial exhibition showcased some of the projects undertaken and commissioned by Sanwo-Olu’s administration in the last four years. Some of the projects included the Agege Pen Cinema, Blue Rail Line, John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and Tradition, Eleko Junction-Epe Rigid Pavement Road, Onikan Multi Level Car Park, Yaba and Oyingbo flyovers, LASWA Control Room, and Oba Sekumade and Agric Ishawo roads in Ikorodu, among others.

According to a statement on Saturday by the Governor’s Media Adviser, Mr Gboyega Akosile, the asset declaration was administered to the duo by a CCB Board member representing South West zone, Prof. Samuel Ogundare;,and witnessed by CCB member, Rt. Hon. Taofeek Olawale Abdulsalam; and Lagos State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mrs. O. Popoola.

The statement reads: “In compliance with paragraph 11 part 1 to the 5th schedule of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that mandates political office holders to declare their assets on assumption and at the of their term in office, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat on Saturday submitted their Asset Declaration Forms.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy have, by their action, satisfied section 185(1) of the same Constitution that makes it paramount for the political office holders to declare their Assets before they take oath of office.

The asset declaration was administered to the Governor and his deputy by Professor S. F. Ogundare, Board member representing South West zone, and witnessed by Rt. Hon. Taofeek Olawale Abdulsalam, member and Mrs. O. Popoola, Lagos State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau”.
