Public Image chairpersons of clubs in Rotary International District 9111 and other Rotarians have been urged to tell the compelling stories of the humanitarian organisation’s projects to the general public.
Delivering a presentation at the Irresistible Virtual Learning Session (IVLS 2.0) of RI District 9111 in Lagos on Saturday, the Secretary of the district’s Public Image committee, Rotarian John Odiboh spoke on “Telling Compelling Stories That Drive Membership Attraction: The When, Where and How”.
He shared the podium with Past District Governor (PDG) Yvonne Kumoji-Darko, who is a member of the Arch Klumph Society (AKS). Named after the sixth President of Rotary International, AKS recognises The Rotary Foundation’s highest tier of donors. She made a presentation on “Mastering the Four-step Process of Fundraising”.
A Public Relations expert, Odiboh enjoined Rotarians to adopt human angle approach to tell Rotary stories to make humanitarian projects executed more tangible and impactful to communities.
He noted that “Rotarians should evoke emotions such as empathy, joy and inspiration while reporting project stories in the media to create connections between their clubs and beneficiaries communities”.
The RI District 9111 officer said: “All Rotarians are spokespersons of our international brand, and should explore universal themes like hope, which resonate with the audiences.
“Rotarians must use narratives and reporting styles such as dialogue, anecdotes and descriptive languages to bring Rotary humanitarian stories to life”.
Rotary leaders in attendance included Pioneer RI District 9111 Governor, Rotarian Wole Kukoyi; PDG Omotunde Lawson, who is the District’s Learning Facilitator; District Governor Elect, Rotarian Henry Akinyele; and District Governor Nominee, Rotarian Bukola Bakare.
Others included PDG Remi Bello; PDG Dehinde Shoga; Assistant Regional Public Image Coordinator, Rotarian Mike Effiong; and Chairperson of District 9111 Public Image Committee, Rotarian Olalekan Otun.
