Tension as sporadic shooting rocks Ibadan

Chaos unfolded as sporadic gunfire echoed through various parts of Ibadan city, Oyo State capital, in the late hours of Thursday.

Tensions had been mounting since Monday, resulting in the removal of the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Park Management System (PMS), Mukaila Lamidi (popularly known as Auxiliary).

The sporadic shooting was heard in Iyana Church, Monatan, Iwo-Road, Alakia, Isebo, Total-Garden, Agodi Gate and Mokola among others.

The crisis escalated when individuals believed to be loyal to the dismissed chairman, who were affiliated with the PMS, began indiscriminate shooting. The reasons behind the incident varied according to different eyewitness

Some residents claimed that the alleged PMS members were seeking revenge for the arrest of approximately 78 of their comrades on Tuesday.

On the other hand, another narrative suggested that Auxiliary’s associates were intent on attacking specific individuals suspected of orchestrating their boss’s removal.

Another source said the PMS boys engaged in a gun duel with members of the Amotekun Corps and security operatives.

The suspects were said to have been shooting while driving across the major parts of the city.

Efforts to reach out to the Police spokesman were was futile at the time of filing this report. Pandemonium broke out in Ibadan on Wednesday evening when sporadic gunshots were heard around major parts of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital city.
