TETFund’s executive secretary bags Champion of Educational Advancement award

The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono, has bagged the award of “Champion of Educational Advancement Nigeria” Award from the Education Writers Association of Nigeria (EWAN).

According to EWAN, the award “highlights Echono’s transformative influence in Nigerian tertiary education, with a specific focus on enhanced accessibility, quality, and institutional development through the TETFund”.

“From elevating research capacities to introducing robust faculty development initiatives, his work since assumption of office, has strengthened the core structure of Nigerian tertiary institutions.

In his remarks at the presentation ceremony he lad at the University of Lagos, which was witnessed by top education policy makers and media executives among others, EWAN’s Chairman, Mojeed Alabi stated that: “Arc. Echono’s leadership goes beyond administration; it’s about building an education system that truly serves Nigeria’s future”.

Echono who became the ninth Executive Secretary of TETFund in 2022, has previously served as the Secreatry of the Admissions Committee of the Nigerian Institute of Architects and the 28th President of the Institute. A former Permanent Secretary in various federal ministries, Echono has been honoured by several governmental and nongovernmental bodies locally and internationally. He is also a recipient of the national honour of the Officer of the Order of Niger.
