President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian filmmakers Damilola Osikoya of Switch Visual Production and Nora Awolowo of Rixel Studios after they set a Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening.
The record was achieved on September 26, 2026, during a screening of Black Market in Lagos.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended the filmmakers for their creativity and enterprise, describing the achievement as further evidence of the talent driving Nigeria’s creative industry.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulates Nigerian filmmakers Damilola Osikoya of Switch Visual Production and Nora Awolowo of Rixel Studios on achieving the Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening,” the statement said.
The President linked the achievement to the broader growth of Nigeria’s creative economy, saying the sector was creating opportunities for Nigerian talent and taking the country’s culture to audiences around the world.
According to the statement, Tinubu said Nigeria’s creative economy was building businesses, creating jobs and opening new markets for Nigerian talent, while film, music, fashion and art were taking the country’s stories and culture to global audiences.
He said the achievement by Black Market demonstrated what could be achieved when Nigerian creativity was combined with enterprise and scale, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for young Nigerians to build livelihoods and globally competitive businesses from their talents.
Tinubu commended the filmmakers and everyone involved in the production and screening of Black Market, and wished the team greater success.
“President Tinubu commends everyone involved in Black Market and wishes the team greater success,” the statement concluded.
