President Bola Tinubu has approved the tenure extension of Comptroller- General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi by additional one year in office. The 59-year-old public relations professional was appointed acting CG in June 2023, and confirmed four months later.
According to the statement by presidential spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the tenure extension was granted to Adeniyi to complete the far- reaching reforms he initiated in the service.
His present tenure is due to expire on 31 August 2025. He will now remain in office until August 2026.
‘The statement read: The extension, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will enable Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of this administration, including, the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
“’President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service.
;The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security’.
The extension of Adeniyi’s tenure has finally put to rest the speculation about his tenure and the cut- throat competition by gladiators to have a bite at the juicy position.
