President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointments of the Director-General (DG) of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and Managing Director (MD) of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali, for another three years. NigerianEconomic Reports
The renewal will see the two chief executives remain at the helm of the Federal Government-owned media organisations until 2029.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the renewal in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, the second three-year tenure of Dembos and Ali will take effect from 20 october 2026.
President Tinubu had first appointed the two media executives on 20 october 2023, to head the NTA and NAN respectively.
The President charged Dembos and Ali to justify the confidence reposed in them by sustaining their commitment to the mandates of their respective organisations.
He also urged them to continue promoting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Dembos, who hails from Yola, Adamawa State, is a veteran broadcaster and former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).
He began his career with the NTA as an announcer at its Kaduna station after completing the National Youth Service Corps programme in 1989.
He subsequently rose through the ranks of the television network, serving in various capacities, including as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano.
Dembos also served as Executive Director of Marketing at the NTA after his retirement in 2017.
Before retiring from the organisation, he was the acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre.
Ali, on the other hand, is a veteran journalist and media manager with more than three decades of experience in the media industry.
According to the Presidency, the NAN managing director has demonstrated a keen interest in the evolution of the media industry and the development of content suited to the demands of the digital age and the changing news consumption habits of diverse audiences.
Ali obtained his first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano.
He also holds a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University, Kano.
