Tinubu loses balance during parade in Turkey, spokesperson says he’s in great shape

President Bola Tinubu lost balance during a ceremonial parade organised for his reception in Türkiye on Tuesday.

This was as he joined the guard of honour upon touching down in Ankara, the Turkish capital. .

The President was quickly helped to his feet by the security operatives, who surrounded him.

There was a little distraction but the event continued without disruption.

His Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication,  Chief Sunday Dare, however, said on his X handle that the President was in ‘great shape’, and that the state visit was proceeding “smoothly’.

He wrote on @SundayDareSG: ‘President Tinubu after a stately welcome ceremony in Ankara proceeded to scheduled bilateral meetings with President of Turkey and other senior government officials from both countries’.

The Presidency allayed fears over the President’s condition.

It said that the incident was caused by the not well-laid blue carpet, adding that the President Tinubu had since resumed his official assignment, and engaged in a bilateral meeting with Turkish authorities after which they would address a media conference.

President Tinubu is in Turkey to consolidate the relationship with Nigeria and also explore new areas of cooperation.

During the visit, he will hold bilateral talks with his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on issues of trade, security, investment and regional cooperation.

The programme will also feature the signing of several memoranda of understanding between the two nations, alongside other high-level official engagements.
