The National Assembly has refuted social media claims that President Bola Tinubu will present the 2025 budget to a joint session on Wednesday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Secretary of Research and Information at the National Assembly, Dr. Ali Umoru, described the reports as false.

He urged the public to disregard the information, emphasizing that the legislative body has yet to approve the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, which must precede the national budget presentation.

Umoru advised that all official communications regarding the National Assembly should come through its authorised channels, warning against spreading unverified and misleading information.

“The purported claim that the 2025 budget will be presented tomorrow is untrue. The necessary legislative process for budget presentation, including the approval of the MTEF and FSP, is still ongoing,” the statement read.

He further reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to transparent governance and urged media outlets and individuals to verify information before publication.

This development comes as Nigerians await the formal unveiling of the 2025 budget, which is expected to outline the government’s fiscal strategy and economic priorities for the coming year.

It was reported that on Monday, the Senate Committee on Finance met with Ministries, Departments and Agencies in line with concluding work on the MTEF/FSP.
