President Bola Tinubu will be among world leaders who will grace the inauguration of John Dramani Mahama as the sixth President in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

In a statement in Abuja on Sunday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga said the President Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday for Accra, the Ghanaian capital.

Serving as Vice President from 7 January 2009, Mahama became the fourth President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic following the death of President John Atta Mills on 24 July 2012. His attempt to have a first full term failed when Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) defeated him in the December 2016 presidential election.

Still running on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama again lost to Akufo-Addo four years later, but defeated outgoing Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in last month’s poll.

President Tinubu’s trip to Accra is at the invitation of President-elect Mahama, who had visited the Nigerian leader earlier in December.

Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just like Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship.

As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will join other African leaders at the ceremony.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and other senior government officials will accompany President Tinubu on the trip.
