Damilola Olayemi, widow of late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings, has reportedly agreed to bury her husband at his family home in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a disagreement with his family over his final resting place.
The development was disclosed by the singer’s close associate and colleague, Lanre Alewilese, in an Instagram video on Sunday.
The disagreement had generated controversy online after members of the singer’s family alleged in a viral interview that Olayemi opposed their plan to bury him at their Ibadan residence.
The 32-year-old widow was reportedly said to have preferred that her husband be buried in a cemetery.
However, Toluwanisings’ father insisted that his son’s remains should be taken to his hometown and buried close to his late mother if burial at the Ibadan family residence was not possible.
The dispute attracted widespread reactions on social media, with some users questioning the widow’s position and calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
Speaking on the matter, Alewilese described the disagreement as a misunderstanding that had since been resolved. He also appealed to Nigerians to stop attacking the widow, noting that she was going through a difficult period following her husband’s death.
“Please, for God’s sake, let peace reign. Damilola is very young for what she’s currently going through. I’m very close to the deceased; his wife is accommodating. All his band members can attest to this.
“The disagreement between Toluwanisings’ father and his widow has been resolved. What happened was just a misunderstanding. The duo have agreed to bury Toluwanisings at his house.
“Please, Nigerians, let there be peace. If you truly love the singer, let his wife have peace now that his burial place has been resolved,” he said.
Alewilese urged members of the public to allow the family to mourn in peace following the resolution of the disagreement over the singer’s burial arrangements.
