The Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, on Friday, expressed sadness following the death of four worshippers when a 150-year-old mosque collapsed in the Zaria area of the state.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Muhammed Shehu, the governor commiserated with the victims’ families and prayed for Allah’s divine healing upon all the injured during the incident.

Sani also praised the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, for his fatherly role in ensuring that rescue missions were carried out by his subjects.

The governor also commended the efforts of the first responders, medical personnel, and citizens of Zaria in rescuing the survivors.

According to the statement, an advance team of senior government officials led by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Balarabe Abbas Lawal, was already in the ancient city to assess the situation on the ground and attend the Islamic funeral rites of the deceased.

“The state government will also order an immediate investigation into the cause of the unfortunate incident.

“The Zaria Central Mosque constructed in the 1830s has for decades opened its doors to Muslim faithful from all parts of the world.

“Governor Sani urged citizens of the state to offer prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed”.
