UN deputy SG to visit Nigeria

The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Amina Mohammed is set to begin a two-day official visit to Nigeria on Thursday.

The National Information Officer of the United Nations Information Centre, Oluseyi Soremekun,, who made the announcement on Tuesday, said that the former Nigerian minister would hold discussions with President Bola Tinubu, senior government officials, and the leadership of the Economic Community of West African States.

The talks are expected to focus on critical issues concerning regional stability and development.

Mohammed will be joined by the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for West Africa, and the Sahel, Leonardo Simão and the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall.

As part of her agenda, she will also engage with the UN country team in Nigeria to review ongoing initiatives and explore future priorities.

“The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed will on Thursday, 9 January 2025 begin a two-day official visit to Nigeria.

“While in Nigeria, she will have a series of meetings, including with H.E. President Bola Tinubu, senior Government officials as well as the senior leadership of the Economic Community of West African States.

“They will be addressing pressing issues of regional stability and development. Ms Mohammed will also meet with the UN country team in Nigeria”,  the statement read.
