Lagos State Government will address issues of emissions which pollute the environment, Permanent Secretary (Environmental Services) in the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tajudeen Gaji has said.
He spoke at a workshop to discuss gaps and needs assessment for energy report as part of efforts to adopt solar renewables alternatives.
Gaji said the last emission inventory labelled the energy sector as having the highest ranking in the state’s emission profile.
He noted that to address this, the adoption of solar renewables was recommended in Lagos Climate Action Plan.
“The document has been examined, and it requires commitment to put Lagos on the emission reduction trajectory. It is imperative to state that under the Consultancy of Lagos Urban Development Initiative (LUDI), the assessment exploited various approaches to come up with models to deliver the project.
“Thus, this high-level validation on the Energy Assessment report cuts across stakeholders for its endorsement.”
He hailed UKAid and C40 Cities for Technical Assistance, under the Climate Action Implementation Africa Programme (CAI), facilitated by the C40 Cities Leadership group for footing the bill to conduct the gaps and need assessment on the Distribution of Solar Solutions for Residential apartments and Small and Medium Enterprises in Lagos.
The City Adviser of C40 Cities, Maximus Ugwwuoke, noted the Climate Action Plans are stepping stones to effective, integrated and transformative implementation and climate response.
This, he noted, would include embedding climate action plans into cities’ governance, planning and decision-making structures, and supporting continued monitoring and progress of climate actions.
Ugwwuoke added that investments in the energy sector have great potential in creating green jobs, improving quality of life and promoting good health.
