A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, Asiwaju Carlo Babatunde Sonupe has praised President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his ‘bold leadership and reform-driven agenda’ in his first two years in office, describing the administration’s efforts as transformative for country’s economic, infrastructural, and security landscape.
During a solidarity visit to the Director General of The Grassroot Movement for Asiwaju, Sonupe expressed strong support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He said that, while some policies had posed short-term difficulties, they are critical steps toward long-term national development.
Citing key reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, the politician noted that these measures had enabled the Federal Government to redirect funds to vital sectors like education, healthcare and infrastructure. According to him, these reforms have also led to a 50% drop in fuel importation and increased investor confidence, positioning the Nigerian Stock Exchange as the ‘world’s top-performing market in recent times’.
Joined by a delegation of youths and representatives of professional and civil society groups, Sonupe also highlighted the increase in government revenue under the Tinubu administration. He reaffirmed his resolve to campaign vigorously for the President’s re-election, stating: ‘President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not dissappinted us having paid all the IMF (International Monetary Fund) loan being owed by thd nation, which was a huge concern hitherto’.
He extended his gratitude to APC leadership for maintaining unity in Alimosho LGA — a populous area, which, according to him, began significant development under President Tinubu’s tenure as Governor of Lagos State. Sonupe emphasised that Alimosho owes much of its progress to the President’s vision.
Paying tribute to local leaders, he applauded the motherly leadership of a former Deputy Governor of the state, Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire and the unifying role of a member of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Yusuf, stressing that ‘together as a bunch of broom, we can achieve great things’.”
Sonupe further said that President Tinubu’s first two years had laid a solid foundation for national renewal. A second term, he said, would allow for the consolidation of reforms and the realisation of enduring benefits for all Nigerians.
Responding, Yusuf commended Sonupe for his unwavering loyalty and dedication. He reaffirmed President Tinubu’s record of leadership and listed his administration’s additional achievements to include the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Port Harcourt Refinery rehabilitation, and the Student Loan scheme.
