Wives of Osun Amotekun personnel arrested by the Nigeria Police following the killings at Akinlalu community have protested over the continued detention of their husbands.

The women, whose husbands were held over the incident  held the protest on Monday in Osogbo.

They protested with placards bearing several inscriptions calling on the governments, Nigeria Police, former state governors and eminent politicians to intervene.

Leading the protest, Ajiboye Olusola asked the Federal Government and Nigeria Police to release their husbands.

She revealed that ever since their arrest and detention in Abuja over four months they have not heard from them.

She said; ‘They should release our husbands for us. It is high time they released our husbands. Since over four months that they have been arrested, we have not heard from them.

‘We have been patient enough. The suffering is too much. They did not do anything at all. We are pleading with the Federal Government and Nigeria Police to release our husbands for us’.

Another protester, Mrs.Idayat Oluwatoyin Oladokun, echoing the same appeal, asked those in authority to ensure the release of their husbands because they are the bread winners of their different families.

‘Our husbands are our bread winners and since their incarceration, our families have been suffering. We are suffering and we cannot endure this anymore. They should release our husbands.

‘Our husbands have been arrested since October without any reason. The day my husband was arrested, he left home feeling me he was going to work but he never came back.

‘I am begging and pleading to those in authority to intervene, help us and release our husbands’.

Mrs. Demola Aminat pleaded for pardon on behalf of their husbands since their hope is placed on them.

The wives of the affected personnel had in the previous week carried their protest to the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi but met his absence.

The ordeal of the arrested personnel started shortly after some residents of Akinlalu town were killed during a shootout with Osun Amotekun operatives on 30 September, 2025.

Osun Amotekun had initially stated that the killed individuals waylaid the operatives and seized their weapons while on lawful duty in the town.

In another statement, the state Police Command said that investigation had commenced into the killing.

It also extended an invitation to the Amotekun to present the operatives who were allegedly involved in the shooting incident.

The police also closed down the offices of Osun Amotekun in Ife Central local government council area and base office in Okefia, Osogbo.
