Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term, arguing that continuity is necessary to consolidate the administration’s ongoing reforms and address the country’s economic and security challenges.
Bello said Tinubu assumed office at a difficult period, inheriting significant economic and security problems that required difficult decisions and sacrifices to place the country on a path to long-term recovery.
The former governor said the success of leadership should not be assessed solely by the difficulties citizens face in the short term, but also by the willingness to confront longstanding challenges and establish the foundations for sustainable development.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves the support of Nigerians because he has demonstrated the courage to take responsibility at a difficult period in our national history,” Bello said.
He argued that Nigeria’s economic and security challenges had developed over many years and could not be resolved overnight, warning that a sudden change in policy direction could disrupt reforms already under way.
According to Bello, Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda provides an opportunity to build a more stable and productive economy, strengthen institutions and expand opportunities for young Nigerians.
The former governor, who has previously declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, said policy continuity was critical to achieving sustainable development.
“We must learn to look beyond immediate political considerations. Nation-building is not a one-day assignment. Important reforms require patience, consistency and the opportunity for those entrusted with leadership to complete the work they have started,” he said.
Bello also commended Tinubu’s political experience and contribution to Nigeria’s democratic development, describing him as a leader who had remained committed to democratic ideals and progressive politics.
He said the President’s resilience and experience across different stages of Nigeria’s democratic journey had equipped him to steer the country through its current difficulties.
Bello Commends Security Efforts
The former Kogi governor also praised the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle insecurity, particularly its emphasis on intelligence-led operations and cooperation between federal and state authorities.
While acknowledging that Nigerians continued to face serious challenges, Bello urged citizens to remain optimistic about the country’s future.
He called on political leaders and citizens to put national interest ahead of personal ambitions and partisan differences, saying unity and collective responsibility were essential to overcoming the country’s difficulties.
Bello said the 2027 presidential election should give Nigerians an opportunity to consider stability, policy continuity and the consolidation of ongoing reforms when making their choice.
“President Tinubu should be allowed to continue the work he has begun. Nigeria needs stability, consistency and leadership that is prepared to take difficult decisions in the interest of future generations,” he said.
He urged Nigerians across ethnic, religious and political divides to support the President, arguing that a second term would give the administration additional time to consolidate its economic, security and democratic programmes.
