Nigerian gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has sparked speculation about a possible reconciliation with fellow gospel minister Tope Alabi after publicly celebrating her birthday, years after their disagreement over the song Oniduro Mi.
Alaseyori shared a birthday message for Tope Alabi on Instagram on Tuesday evening, expressing her good wishes and praying for grace, strength and mercy for the veteran singer.
Sharing Alabi’s photograph, she wrote: “Happy birthday Ma L/Evang @tope_alabi_ and congratulations on your new age.
“Sufficient grace, strength and mercy we pray for you, ma. Best of God this day and beyond ma.”
The gesture has fuelled speculation that the two gospel singers may be moving past their disagreement, which attracted considerable attention among Christian audiences and social media users in June 2021.
The controversy began after Alabi publicly criticised Alaseyori’s hit song Oniduro Mi, which translates to “My Guarantor”.
Alabi argued that describing God as a guarantor did not adequately reflect His immense power and greatness. Her comments drew criticism online, with some social media users accusing her of being jealous of Alaseyori’s success.
Following the incident, the two singers were reportedly no longer seen publicly celebrating each other or interacting on social media as they had previously done.
Alaseyori’s latest birthday message has therefore attracted attention from fans who have hoped for a reconciliation between the gospel ministers.
Although the birthday tribute suggests a gesture of goodwill, neither singer has publicly confirmed that they have formally reconciled.
