Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has shared an emotional account of his final moments with his late friend and colleague, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Speaking publicly for the first time since Ogogo’s death, Quadri described the late actor as his “twin brother from heaven”, saying their friendship went beyond their years together in the Yoruba film industry.
“I have always said that we were twins from heaven, only born to different mothers,” he said.
In a lengthy post shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Quadri recalled visiting Ogogo at the hospital shortly before his death.
According to him, he became overwhelmed with emotion when he saw his longtime friend on his sick bed and could not hold back his tears.
“I will never forget the last time I saw you at the hospital. You were lying on your sick bed, and when I saw you, I could not hold back my tears,” Quadri wrote.
He said Ogogo, however, tried to reassure him, telling him not to cry.
“You looked at me and said, ‘Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me.’ And I responded, ‘Yes, Amen,’” he added.
Quadri further recalled that Ogogo later asked him to hand him a bottle of water and drank from it.
“A few minutes later, you asked me to give you the bottle of water on the table. I gave it to you, and you drank from it,” he said.
According to Quadri, Ogogo then pointed out that he had been able to eat that morning and asked the doctors to confirm it.
“When they confirmed it, I said, ‘Glory be to God’. My hope and faith became even stronger. But the doctors only advised us to remain prayerful,” he wrote.
Ogogo died on Sunday after battling stage-four cancer. He was buried according to Islamic rites the following day in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.
His death has continued to draw tributes from colleagues, friends and fans, with Quadri’s emotional account highlighting the close bond the two veteran actors shared over the years.
