Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has warned the 44 local government chairmen against diverting fertilisers provided at subsidised rates for farmers in the state.
The governor gave the warning during the flag-off of the 2025 wet season distribution of the subsidised fertiliser to farmers from 44 local government areas, held on the premises of Al Yuma Company in Madobi Local Government Area.
This was contained in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, in Kano, on Monday.
‘The state government, in collaboration with local government councils, invested heavily in procuring fertilisers at subsidised prices to support our farmers and boost food production.
‘Anyone found engaging in fertiliser diversion will face the full wrath of the law’, the statement said.
The governor urged farmers to report any attempts to divert the subsidised fertiliser to the authorities.
He also asked members of the distribution committee to work assiduously to ensure seamless exercise.
‘At this point, I strongly implored members of the distribution committee at the local level to ensure justice and fairness in the discharge of their assignment to achieve the purpose of providing the much-needed support’, the governor said.
He stressed that the fertilisers were meant to support farmers and increase food production, not for personal gain or profit.
Yusuf promised that the government would continue to support farmers by providing them with necessary inputs, including fertiliser, to boost food production and improve their livelihoods.
He also said the government would ensure that farmers had access to markets, credit, and other resources to support them in the farming process.
