The Zamfara State Government has approved a 95 per cent increase in the salaries of health workers across the state, with the new pay structure taking effect from September 7, 2026.
The government said the revised remuneration was aligned with the Federal Government’s approved health-sector salary structures, particularly the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).
The Head of Civil Service, Shehu Baraya, announced the adjustment in a circular dated September 10, 2026, with reference number HS/Z/001/54/VOL.II.
The circular, addressed to senior government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries and heads of ministries, departments, agencies, boards and commissions, said the review was part of efforts to strengthen the state’s health sector.
According to the government, the salary increase is aimed at improving the welfare and working conditions of health personnel while strengthening the state’s health workforce.
It added that improved remuneration was expected to boost workers’ morale and motivation, as well as enhance productivity and efficiency in healthcare delivery.
The government, however, urged health workers to reciprocate the adjustment with greater commitment, professionalism and dedication to their duties.
It directed personnel to observe official working hours, maintain discipline and comply with public service rules, regulations and established ethical standards.
The circular contains revised CONHESS basic salary scales covering various grades and steps, alongside hazard allowances for clinical and non-clinical health workers.
Under the new hazard allowance schedule, clinical health workers on salary grades one to five are entitled to ₦15,200, while their non-clinical counterparts will receive ₦14,250.
For grades six to 12, the allowance is ₦30,400 for clinical workers and ₦28,500 for non-clinical health workers.
Workers on grades 13 to 15 are listed to receive ₦32,300 as clinical health workers and ₦30,400 as non-clinical health workers.
The state government said the revised remuneration was part of its broader efforts to improve staff welfare and create a more conducive environment for effective healthcare delivery across Zamfara.
