Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, on Tuesday, flagged off his administration’s fourth flyover and the dualisation of the Tashan Kano highway in Maiduguri, estimated to cost N16 billion.

Speaking at the groundbreaking event, the governor urged the contractors to ensure the timely completion of the project.

Zulum said 50 per cent of the contract sum had already been paid to ensure timely delivery.

‘We have set aside N8 billion for interim payments, and there will be no cost variation.

‘I urge the contractors to maintain high standards and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.

‘This is the fourth major bridge we are constructing to transform Maiduguri into a modern city, to the glory of God and the benefit of humanity’, Zulum said.

Launching the dualisation project, the governor said, ‘We are here to officially launch the dualisation of the 7.1km road from Borno Express to Molai and to construct an additional bridge downstream to enhance the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.

‘This project will be completed within eight months’.

The Commissioner for Works, Mustapha Gubio, assured the governor that the road dualisation would be completed on time, with the flyover scheduled for completion in four months.

Gubio said the new flyover was structurally different from previously constructed ones in Maiduguri.

‘This is a nine-span bridge, 600 metres in total length, comprising 16 piers, with ramps of 210 metres on each side.

‘It begins near the entrance of the Specialist Hospital and terminates close to the Ngarannam bridge near BRTV’, he said.

The commissioner said the project site required minimal compensation, noting that all soil and structural tests had been successfully conducted.
