The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Gusau, Prof. Muazu Abubakar has said that 12 students of the institution and nine construction workers were still in bandits’ captivity.
Abubakar told journalists on Wednesday evening in his office that six students were rescued, and nine others escaped from the bandits, leaving the remaining 21 kidnapped victims in captivity.
According to him, the university authorities were in touch with the parents of the victims as efforts were being made by security agents to rescue the remaining students.
He urged the parents to be more patient as security agents were doing their best to get the victims freed.
Meanwhile, Zamfara State governor, Dauda Lawal, has paid a visit to the University to sympathise with the school authorities over the unfortunate kidnap incident.
Governor Lawal used the visit to reiterate his stand on non-negotiation with the bandits in the State.
According to him, necessary security measures were being worked out by his administration to end the act of banditry in the state.
The governor, therefore, solicited more collaborative efforts with the security agents to achieve the desired goal.
