178 earns 1st class degree as UNIBEN graduates 14,254

The management of the University of Benin will confer first degrees, diplomas and certificates to 14,254 graduates during its 2020/2021 convocation ceremony.

At a press briefing as part of activities lined up for the institution’s 48th convocation and 53rd Founders’ Day Ceremony in Benin City, the Edo State capital, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lilian Salami said that 178 of these graduates bagged first class honours while 4,353 made Second Class Upper Division.

He said the convocation ceremony, alongside the 53rd Founder’s Day celebration, would commence next week Thursday.

According to her, the Senate of the university also approved 4,045 graduates for conferment of post-graduate degrees in different courses.

Salami said honorary degrees would be conferred on seven personalities for their exemplary services to the university and the country, four of whom are alumni of the university.

She listed the honorees to include a former governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Mr. Charles Edosomwan, and Mr. Olukayode Dotun-Olukayode

Others are Mr. Osaro Isokpan, Mr. Gbenga  Komolafe, Mr. Paul Enebeli and Mrs. Betsy Obaseki.

Salami, who congratulated the graduates for the award of degrees, said that a former Vice Chancellor of Veritas University, Abuja Mike Kwanashie would deliver the Founders’ Day and Convocation Lecture.
